Basic Numerology

I was trying to think of something good to write about for my first pagan related post. I wasn’t sure what I could write about, so I thought back to what I first looked into when I became interested in Paganism and the occult. One of the first things that peaked my interest was numerology. Numerology uses numbers to tell you more about a person. It was mentioned in one of the murder mystery books I was reading, so I looked into it more and eventually had to go out and buy a book on it. The really great thing about numerology is that you don’t need to buy an overpriced deck of cards or ball of glass to do it. You can find out the information you need to do a numerology reading on the internet. It is also wicked easy to understand, which is why I recommend it as a starting point for beginners who want to dive right into ‘divinatory’ things.

There are two systems of numerology. There is the Pythagorean system, and the Chaldean system. The Pythagorean system is more popular, so that is the one I am going to talk about. You can find out a lot using numerology. With your birthday you can find your life path (sometimes called your destiny) number. It is one of the easiest to do because it does not require you to have a letter chart. Just add up the numbers in your birthday (mm/dd/yyyy) and reduce to a single digit number. Some people consider the numbers 11 and 22 to be master numbers and believe that they should not be reduced. I do not follow this. If you go there and scroll down you will also find some wonderful explanations for the life path numbers. It is interesting to see what you get for this and if it ‘comes true’ in a way. I never thought I would be a life path 8, but now that I have seen myself grow over the years I am realizing how true it is for me.

Another thing you can find using numerology is you name expression. This one obviously requires your name. xD The first thing you need to do is find a letter chart. This is a chart that has the numbers one through nine at the top and the letters that correspond underneath them. It is easy to find on the internet, or you can draw one out yourself. I have one below, and as you can see you just have 1-9 and the alphabet on it.

Then you take your full birth name, write down the corresponding numbers, and add it up! You need to reduce it to a single number, and you have your name expression number. Some numerologists call this your destiny number, but I disagree. You can count just the vowels or consonants in you came to find either your vowel expression (sometimes called your heart’s desire,) or your consonant expression (sometimes called personality number.) You might be wondering about the letter ‘y’ right about now. What do you count it as? If the letter ‘y’ sounds like a vowel then it is counted as one. If it sounds like a consonant then it is counted as one. Take the name Lynne for example. The ‘y’ in Lynne sounds like an ‘I’, so you would count it as a vowel. A good website to find the meanings to any of the name expression numbers is http://www.decoz.com/DoReading_numerology.htm .

If you are interested, there are free numerology calculators both online and ones that you can upload onto your computer. There is one at http://www.wertzateria.com/monster/numerology.html that you do not need to upload. There is one at http://www.2near.com/edge/numerology/ that you do need to upload.

There is one website that you may encounter while searching for more numerology related things on the internet. It is http://www.123numerology.com/ and I want you to use your best judgment to decide if you want to go to the website or not. You give your full name, birthday, and your email address. You will receive a confirmation email and then you will get a sample reading. You get a free 21 lesson tutorial along with this as well. I believe that the lessons are worth reading. They have a lot of information in them and will introduce you to more than I have. Throughout the emails you will be asked to buy a full reading from Blair Gorman. I never did, and never will, because many people have given him money and received nothing. Most people believe it is a scam. Please use your best judgment!

Book Recommendations

· Numerology for Beginners by Gernie Bauer. This is the one that I own. I never felt the need to buy another, but I probably will someday. I move from subject to subject so quickly that I never really get the chance to buy more than one book on a subject usually. (Good for my wallet, since if I could I would buy every book on every subject I’m interested in. xD )

· The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Numerology would probably be a good place to start as well. I like the Complete Idiot’s Guide books because they are informative, but not over informative.

About Me

So this first post is going to be about me. I figure I should let you all know a bit about me before I get into the interesting Pagan stuff. If you read that first thing on the page then you know that my name is Tori, I am 17 and Pagan. I also want you to know that I’m not some teenager using Paganism to rebel against her parents. I actually get along fine with my parents and they are pretty accepting of my choices. Some people might wonder why I simply call myself Pagan when it is an umbrella term for a lot of different paths. Well, the answer is I don’t know what else to call myself. I’m trying to find what path is right for me. It’s probably going to take me years to find out. That’s okay. I have the time.

I am a senior in high school. I am planning on going to college next year. I want to go to the New England Culinary Institute to become a restaurant manager. I want to own my own restaurant some day. Not to cook in it, but I think I’d have fun managing and owning it. If I don’t get into NECI then I will need to think of a backup college and find some other cool career. I love learning though, so no matter what happens I’ll be fine.

I don’t have a picture up yet, I’m going to try to find one that I actually like. I don’t like my picture taken but there has to be a good one somewhere. xD You will notice that I use that little face a lot. I love using faces. You will learn other facts about me as I blog, but right now I am going to publish this and go find something for lunch. As I’m eating I’ll think of something more Pagan related to write about for my next post.
