Sewing

The lace on one of my favorite shirts was coming off in the back. I want to wear it tomorrow, and I had nothing else to do, so I came up with this brilliant (if not obvious) idea. I have a sewing machine, I'll fix it!

It started out well enough. It's a delicate material, one of my favorite shirts, and I haven't sewn anything in a while, so I was trying to be careful. Then the thread bunched up on me. (I still have no clue why.) Fun, fun. I had to completely re-thread my sewing machine and continue. I keep sewing and I finally get it attached. It looks just like I expected, like an armature tried to fix my shirt. xP Oh well, it still looks better than it did before. I feel accomplished that I sewed it at all.

Now if I could just figure out a way to fix the holes that are appearing in the front... I usually layer these tank tops with other shirts so it isn't that a big deal, but I still don't want my shirt to be full of holes.

I've finished cutting up my old jeans for that denim quilt I want to make. I just want my mom to help me start it so I know what I'm doing. I'm thinking about buying other material so I can have some contrast, and to make it bigger. Any suggestions?

Tomorrow I am going on another visit to NECI. My dad hasn't seen the college yet, and I have tons of questions. I'm getting wicked excited about going in September. =)

Earth Day & Testing My Green Thumb

First off- Happy Earth Day! The weather here was nice for a little while, but turned windy and then rainy. I got to spend some time outside like I've been wanting. I picked up the sticks around our yard and piled them up near where we will be having campfires as soon as the weather warms up (hopefully that will be soon!) Then I just sat outside and wrote 1 of 3 essay question answers for a scholarship. It started raining as soon as I decided to try my little experiment.

I went through with it anyway! I honestly believe that it doesn't matter how dirty I get over the course of my day because I am just going to shower before bed anyways. My experiment was this- We have a beautiful lilac bush on the corner of our house that is sprouting up tons of suckers. I read about how to dig some up and replant them. I decided to try it, but put one in a pot to see if it will live. My problem is that I have never successfully kept a potted plant alive. But if we end up moving soon (and I really hope we do) then I want to bring some of the suckers with us. So if this one lives then I'll know that it wouldn't be a waste of time to replant suckers at a new house.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it lives. I seem to have a black thumb, but I've always wanted to garden. I consider this a test. If it doesn't live, then maybe I need to consider not having plants. xP

Homemade Burgers

Suzie's Burger Challenge gave me a good excuse to make some delicious homemade burgers. We grill a lot at my house, but usually my dad is happy with frozen burger patties. I won't eat them. Deciding I was in the mood for burgers, I pulled out a half a pound of frozen hamburger to thaw on Saturday so that I could make these on Sunday.

I chopped up two cloves of garlic and half an onion and put those in. Then I put in some honey teriyaki marinade, salt, and pepper. I was a little worried that they would fall apart, but they were fine. I just cooked them on the grill over a medium heat with some BBQ sauce. YUM!

Here is the final product sitting on my plate with, in my opinion, the perfect side. I'm still a kid when it comes to food. xD
